Mindful Miles
Racing for Wellness

In May, Sam and Olli launched a charity fundraiser called Mindful Miles: Racing for Wellness. Here’s the story behind it.

In their mid-twenties and eager for new challenges, they decided to push themselves both physically and mentally, stepping out of their comfort zones to discover their true potential. This journey not only tested their limits but also provided an opportunity to partner with Mind, a mental health charity whose mission resonates deeply with their goals.

Coming from different backgrounds, Olli as a professional athlete and Sam as a filmmaker, they both face stress in their professional lives in unique ways. Mindful Miles presented a chance to explore how they handle pressure and uncertainty in the unpredictable landscape of such a challenge. It allowed them to push their physical and mental boundaries, while learning from each other’s experiences along the way. Their aim was to inspire others to embrace challenges and to prioritise their mental well-being while supporting a meaningful cause.

Their challenge was an ambitious cycling journey from Silverstone in the UK to Monza in Italy, honouring historic race tracks along the way. Covering 1,400 kilometres through seven countries, they faced countless challenges such as finding food and shelter each day. On some nights they searched until dusk to find somewhere to stay, only finding a bed at the last moment when hope was running low. This adventure was not just about the distance, but about embracing the spirit of endurance and discovery, making every kilometre a tribute to both their passion for racing and their commitment to mental wellness.

Through their efforts, they raised over £3,000 on JustGiving for Mind, with additional funds continuing to be raised each month through a coffee collaboration launched alongside the project. Every bag sold contributes to the ongoing support of Mind, helping to keep the message of Mindful Miles alive long after the ride ended.

Mindful Miles was about racing for wellness, but it became something more. It became a reminder that progress is not always fast or easy, but it is always worth it. Every pedal stroke was a small act of resilience, a way to celebrate movement, mindfulness, and the strength that comes from looking after your mental health.
